Before anything else there was the treeline: that row of trunks that closes like a door once you're through. The fifth mark comes from the night he left — vertical trunks, the depth of the wood suggested in a few strokes, and the animal half hidden, moving between them.
Forest is the only landscape in the catalogue. The others isolate the wolf; this one puts him back in his setting and plays on what you don't see.
It'll speak to you if you're more woods than city: autumn walks, the smell of undergrowth, nights outside. It's also the drawing that gains most from being shown large.
